“Whatever purifies you is the right path.” ~RUMI
Winter walks in below-freezing temperatures can be beautiful and invigorating, but must be respected. I’ve grown up knowing that we need to dress for the weather, not only to keep safe in icy temps but also to be able to walk securely with traction on frozen ground. One simply must have the right footwear and clothing. Stepping out in the winter in my northern climate requires preparation.
Similar to the preparation needed for a safe winter walk on a frozen forest path, we discover and embark on our life path with all our choices. When we decide to improve our lives we can see how changing habits and exploring new hobbies requires preparation, whether it’s deciding to prepare and eat a wider variety of vegetables, or learning how to knit a sweater. We prepare and step up, step into it. We prepare, and then take action and do it.
At this time of year when the freezing temps keep me indoors more than out, I remind myself that the process of taking new paths is as metaphorical as it is literal. As I prepare, I gain courage. As I step out, I gain strength. As I walk forward on my path, I continue to grow into who I am becoming. May we all find the right path, and take it. ~Namaste
