Wake Up Thankful

01/12/2014

wake up and be thankfulWaking up cheerfully doesn’t just spontaneously happen. It’s a habit to be developed. As we work at it, waking up with feelings of gratitude becomes easier. After years of practice it has become quite natural for me, but I can always continue to hone my skills.

Gratitude is the first and foremost way to greet your day. As soon as you wake up. Every day.

beginning of a new dayI find this comes more easily if I fall asleep thinking of all my blessings. And not only thinking about them but really feeling gratitude. Feeling a glow in my heart with deep and powerful thanks to God for this life I love so much.

We often unconsciously wake up with the residual effects of what we fell asleep musing over so let’s endeavor to add joy to our mornings by falling asleep with thoughts and feelings that uplift us, rather than listing what we have to do tomorrow or things that went wrong. Let’s all eliminate mental lists from our bedtime thinking!

believe there is goodEmbrace optimistic thoughts as soon as you wake up, for these will help set the tone for the brightest and most productive of days. Let’s celebrate this day!

PSALM 106:1-2 ESV ~ Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord, or declare all his praise?

It's never too latePSALM 136:26 ESV ~ Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.

“Sunrise is a wonderful time to arise, for the sun, the dew and the birds are awakening with us. This is a time to open ourselves to the pulse of creation. Greet the day with thanksgiving for another opportunity. It is never too late to have the life you were born to enjoy. No matter the circumstance. No matter the obstacles that confront you. Give thanks for the chance to begin anew.”
~ Ann Mortifee, In Love With The Mystery

Hope anchors the soul“Pay attention to your senses, everything you’re seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and maybe even tasting, and see how many things you can find to feel grateful for. This is a powerful way to shift your mood and open to the flow of abundance that always surrounds you.” ~Deepak Chopra

I never used to be a morning person and as I get older I get up earlier. I often get up just before dawn, it’s such a magical time of day!

  2.

Amen. I aspire to make profound gratitude a touchstone when I rise to each and every day.

That’s wonderful Frank! I really enjoy your turn of phrase here: ‘make profound gratitude a touchstone’. Wise words indeed! Thank you kindly for your visit and comment. ~Gina

Gina, thank you! I start and finish each day with, “Thank you for all of the blessings that I have, and all of the blessings that I am receiving. Gratitude is Great! Thank YOU, Gina! Hugs, Cher xo

I have been writing 5 things I am grateful for every single night for about a year now, and it has definitely made me much more happier. I encourage everyone to do the same. I started with 5 things but someday I write whole pages of gratitude. Everyday I find more things, people and situations to be grateful for. I don’t think it is a coincidence 😀

I agree completely with everything in your wonderful comment 🙂 especially that it’s not a coincidence. By looking for and discovering more things to be grateful for, the things on our ‘thank you’ list keeps on growing! What a wonderful reward. Erika, I thank you with happy hugs for your delightful comment. Keep on adding to your gratitude journal! 😀

I agree… often we do not see the many blessings we already have in our lives.. We forget the simple act of gratitude for the many things we take for granted.. A wonderful reminder.. to wake up and be thankful….
    Blessings to you

Thank you Sue for your delightful encouragement! Yes it is a required reminder for many of us who wake in a hurry to get going with the day but as we develop the good habit to pause and give thanks we soon discover how enriching that simple step is. Well it seems simple but it is much bigger than it seems! 🙂 Blessings, Gina

Amen. and I love the plaque “it’s never too late to be what you might have been” as I continue to search for a job that suits me better. I keep getting close but there’s still a TON of competition out there. but I have faith that the right one will come along when it’s time. for now, I am thankful I have a job. Amen.

Thank you for visiting and sharing this great comment Toby. I remember when I had to keep sending resumes and attending interviews one particular time of my life when I really wanted a better job. At last it came and it was so much better. I know this for you as well, it is coming to you very soon. A right and perfect job for you. Warmest wishes and thanks again! Gina

gosh, I hope you’re right as the patience….it wears thin at times 🙂 Thank you so much for your kind thoughts!

        •

Oh yes I know how thin our patience wears, as we wait and hope and wait some more. I’ve been there and I wonder if this rather old post of mine may offer comfort, as it was a special moment that happened just before I landed an excellent job around very nice people. Hold onto that vision, of seeing yourself happily working at a new job surrounded by nice people. It helps! https://professionsforpeace.com/2012/04/16/the-kindness-of-strangers/

          •

yes indeed. thank you! I will hold onto that vision 🙂 I’m not miserable like I was in my last job. While this one is better, I just can’t see me doing it for 5-6 more years when I hope to retire. hence the job hunt now….I have that to look back on as well. I got through that awful, awful experience. I will surely get through this not that awful experience. Thanks again, I appreciate it!
