Contemplating Courage

get stronger

A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?

~ Vincent Van Gogh

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.

~ Anais Nin

No coward soul is mine,

No trembler in the world’s
 storm-troubled sphere:

I see the Heaven’s
 glories shine,

And faith shines equal, arming me from fear.

~ Emily Bronte

One with outward courage dares to die.

One with inward courage dares to live.

~ Lao-Tzu

I do not ask to walk smooth paths,
nor bear an easy load;

I pray for strength and fortitude
 to climb the rock-strewn road.

Give me such courage I can scale
the hardest peaks alone,

And transform every stumbling block
into a stepping stone.

~ Gail Brook Burket

The Emily Bronte quote is one that has always been close to my heart. Sometime ago I had the wonderful privilege of visiting Howarth and the parsonage there as well as the moors she loved so much. She was the epitome of courage. Great post. Loved the other quotes as well.Thank you, Gina.

Hello Don. That is wonderful that you got to visit the places Emily Bronte enjoyed. The Bronte sisters were amazing, and remained strong through so much. Thank you kindly for your visit and this lovely comment. Blessings, Gina

Great collection of inspiring quotes – thank you!

Just what I needed today! Thanks 🙂

Thanks for all the great thoughts on courage. I especially like the one about the hero being someone who was courageous 5 min longer.

Yes I enjoy that one too. Emerson put that so well, and inspires us all to be heroes by hanging in there just a few minutes longer than we thought we could. Thanks for your kind comment!

Great collection of quotes, Gina. To me, they speak of the two sides of the same coin and the choices that we make on what we focus…

Thank you so much Cathy, and I like how you put that. Life is like two sides of a coin, and it’s up to us to be aware of what we are focusing on, isn’t it? Always wonderful to enjoy your comments.
      Hugs, Gina

Thank you for your focus on Courage! One of my favorites has always been Amelia Earhart;s Quote
“Courage is the price that Life exacts for granting peace,
The soul that knows it not, knows no release,….” Love, Linda
